The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and diminish the achievement difference between them and their peers. The Recovery Premium provides additional funding for state-funded schools in the 2023 to 2024 academic year. Building on the Pupil Premium, this funding helps schools to deliver evidence-based approaches for supporting disadvantaged pupils.

A pupil is deemed to be disadvantaged if they are recorded as eligible for Free Schools Meals (FSM) in the last six years, in the care of the local authority or adopted from care. Schools are free to use the Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium in the ways that they see as best for supporting disadvantaged pupils.
